This includes emergency and non-emergency calls. Dispatch communications centers handle emergency 911 calls for service as well as wireless calls, non-emergency, and allied agency calls. Nelson County Dispatch is a multi-agency entity since 2007, we recieve and process emergency communications for. The main functions of the Dispatch Unit are to efficiently answer calls for service, whether calls are of a public service nature or inter-departmental communications. The center is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our Communication Center has a staff of 12 personnel. The Citys emergency communications structure ensures that emergency services are dispatched in response to the more than 11 million 911 calls received. We transfer fire and rescue calls to the Los Angeles County Fire Department or the Santa Fe Springs Department of Fire and Rescue. Dispatchers are responsible for handling all emergency calls and transferring non-police calls to the proper agencies. The Whittier Police Department is a State 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point. Our center uses a digital radio system, computer assisted answering and call management system and ergonomically designed motorized control panels. The Communications Center is the first contact for the citizens, victims and callers to the Whittier Police Department from the Cities of Whittier and Santa Fe Springs. 911 Emergency Dispatcher The role of a 911 Emergency Dispatcher includes the use of a computer-aided dispatch system, then determining cruiser assignments based on the priority of a run, and marking cruisers into and out of service. Ogemaw County established its Enhanced 911 system in 1993. This information provides officers with data on individuals that may have warrants or violations, as well as identifying individuals that may be a safety risk to the public. Central Dispatch also receives and disseminates vital information to officers on traffic stops and complaints through the State of Michigan LEIN system. Central Dispatch handles all of the radio communications for these response agencies. In addition to answering 911 calls from the public, we are the primary dispatch center for five law enforcement agencies, eight fire departments, and three EMS stations within Ogemaw County. Central Dispatch sends emergency responders to over 15,000 incidents each year. Ogemaw County Central Dispatch handles over 13,000 911 calls each year, with over 50,000 requests for assistance. The 911 dispatcher obtains the information from the caller and then dispatches the appropriate emergency response agency. All 911 phone lines and emergency calls in Ogemaw County are routed through our communications center. Central Dispatch operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Central Dispatch is the public service answering point (PSAP) for Ogemaw County.
